The Hazard Mitigation Coordinator has been unable to determine
the number of property owners who have flood insurance because National
Office has not provided the Region with an up-to-date, usable listing of
policy holders; and the Region has received no Notices of Loss. The
Hazard Mitigation Coordinator is continuing to work with the State and
County and to research the status of flood insurance policies to identify
a possible Section 1362 project.

Yuma and Y~a County, Arizona -- There are several trailer parks located
within the levees. Most are occupied by recreational vehicles. Nearly
all units were removed during the flood and have since been returned to
the site. In addition, there are several older buildings which were not
substantially damaged.

Imperial County, California -- Almost all the lands fronting the Colorado
River within Imperial County are either federal, state, or Indian lands.
Levees are located on two stretches of the river: northwest of Palo Verde
and along the Bard-Winterhaven area. The only developed property which is
located within a levee and under the County jurisdiction is south of the
Winterhaven townsite. A house, shop building and mobile home occupy this
18.8 acre site. An occupant-constructed berm has prevented flooding
of these structures.

Needles, California -- The City of Needles has development within the BuRec
levee. The subdivision was built 15 years ago and was elevated above the
b.f.e. The only damage to this subdivision was loss of landscaping and one
access road. The City did not feel relocation was appropriate because there
was no damage to buildings.

San Bernardino County, California
on the location of structures within
sch~duled for October 6, 1983.

The County will provide the information
levees at the second community meeting

There are no buildings located within levees in Riverside County, California,
and La Paz County, Arizona.

WORK ELEMENT #2:

S T J
I L F

The federal/state/local agencies involved in management of land within the
floodplain must inform prospective concessionaires of potential flood hazards.

Progress:

The BLM is revising their contract with concessionaires which will include a
more specific flood hazard notification. The mechanism for such notification
has yet to be determined.

In addition, a special mitigation project is underway for the BLM concession-
aires along the Parker Strip.
