-

San Juan- Chama
Water Accounting
Albuquerque Area Office
February 1997

The natural inflow into Heron Reservoir during the month of February was computed
to be 2037 acre-feet (AF) as shown in Table 3. There were 10 AF net San Juan-
Chama (SJ-C) losses, as shown in Table 2. There were 76 AF of diversions through
Azotea Tunnel this month.

There was a total of 2024 AF of Natural (RG) released from Heron, of which 121
AF was seepage. There was 6443 AF of SJ-C water released from Heron, of which
3524 AF was sent to the City of Albuquerque (the City) in Abiquiu as part of
their 1997 annual allocation. 2607 AF of City water was sent to the Middle Rio
Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) in El Vado. 312 AF of MRGCD water was sent
to their own pool in El Vado.

There was 1.03 inches of precipitation at Heron Reservoir, which is 76% of the
February (running) average of 1.35 inches. The monthly computations for Heron
Reservoir are summarized in Tables 1-3.

From El Vado, 4092 AF was released by (MRGCD) for temporary storage in the City
pool in Abiquiu. A total of 2607 AF inflow of City water was sent to MRGCD in
El Vado. A total of 312 AF inflow of MRGCD water was sent into their own pool.

From Abiquiu, a total of 4932 AF was released; 379 AF to the Jemez Sediment pool,
4243 AF to the Cochiti Recreation pool and 310 AF borrowed for Nambe replacement.
A total of 7288 AF of SJ-C water flowed into Abiquiu: 4356 AF of MRGCD water in
Abiquiu: 2932 AF of City 1997 allocated water to their own pool.

Total inflow into Nambe Falls Reservoir was computed to be 220 AF. There was a
net evaporation loss of -1 AF on the reservoir. Table 4 summarizes San Juan-
Chama water at Otowi.

Estimated sediment deposition in the San Juan-Chama pools at Abiquiu and Jemez
Canyon Reservoirs, and Cochiti lake are presented in Tables 5A-5C. Storage and
evaporation of Rio Grande water in El Vado and Abiquiu Reservoirs are shown in
Table 6.

All data are provisional and subject to revision as final data are collected and
analyzed.
