It caused an estimated $508,702,000 in damages, includ- <br />ing over $300,000,000 in the Denver metropolitan area; 253,000 <br />acres of agricultural 1.anda were flooded; 13 lives were lost, <br />Along the Lower South Platte River, 1.32,160 acres of 1.and were <br />flooded, or which 76,740 acres were downstream from Bijou Creek. <br />An additional 15,400 acres of land vere flooded along the Platte <br />River in Nebraska. Irrigation structures and equipment, crops and <br />cropland, and farmsteads sustained damages. Livestock vere <br />droTJl:1ed. E1.ectrical and telephone systems vere damaged and dis- <br />rupted. Extra expenditures resulted from debris removal, measures <br />to protect public health, and from flood fighting. Highvays and <br />railroada were damaged; near~ every highvay and railroad bridge <br />aver the South Platte River vas damaged or destroyed.
