SYNOPSIS

Plan of Development

To bolster the livestock industry through irrigation, the Lyman
project would be undertaken by the Bureau of Recla~tion to prOVide
urgently needed supplemental water for approximately 40,600 acres--
the. amount of. land presently irrigated. It would incidentally improve
the area's domestic water supply during the late irrigation season by
augm<3nting the supply of its wells with unavoidable seepage from irri-
gated lands and distribution canals_ The project would result in only
a negligible reduction iIi fish and wildlife values since all practicable
provisions would be made for their preservation. Hydroelectric power
development in connection with the project would be impracticable.
Recreational values would be only slightly improved. Industrialwater
supplies, flood and silt control, navigation, and stream polution abate-
ment would not be affected. There are no Indian lands in the vicinity
of the project.

To provide the additional late-season irrigation water, an earth-
fill dam would be constructed at the Bridger site on Willow Creek to
store the spring flood flows of Blacks Fork and its tributary, West Fork
of Smiths Fork. Surplus flows of these streams, now largely used for
excessive irrigation in the spring run-off season, would be conveyed to
the.- reservoir through a canal of 650 second-foot capacity heading on
Blacks Fork and through a canal of 250 second-foot capacity heading on

m,__ __.L___ _____,.=:J .,__ ___.L_~___:' ~ L".

T.T__.l...
