Fairchild <br />August 19, 1974 <br />Page eight <br /> <br />unit would conserve and regulate water for the Denver metropolitan <br />area, develop peaking power, and provide significant recreational <br />benefits. The Regional Director's Draft Proposed Report is scheduled <br />for completion in September 1974. <br /> <br />d. Narrows unit - The unit will provide supplemental <br />irrigation, flood control, recreation enhancement, fish and wildlife <br />conservation and development, and potential future municipal and <br />industrial water supplies. The Environmental Impact Statement is <br />currently being rewritten and is scheduled for filing with the <br />Council of Environmental Quality in April 1975. Execution of the <br />repayment contracts with the Lower South Platte and Northern Colorado <br />Water Conservancy Districts and the State of Colorado is expected <br />in the spring of 1975. <br /> <br />Beginning in FY 1973, the Corps of Engineers initiated a <br />study of the water and related land resources problems in metro- <br />politan Denver and the South Platte River and tributaries in Colo- <br />rado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. The goal of the study is to develop <br />an integrated water and related land management program within the <br />South Platte River Basin. The study is scheduled for completion in <br />FY 1977. <br /> <br />Smail Watershed Projects (PL 566) under way in FY 1974 <br />by the Soil Conservation Service included the f11owing: <br /> <br />'a. Handy Ditch Watershed - The Preliminary Work <br />Plan Supplement received technical review and is being revised. <br /> <br />b. Boxe1der Creek Watershed - The Project Plan was <br />approved for 'operations, and design investigations are in progress. <br /> <br />c. Sedqwick-Sand Draws - The field review was com- <br />pleted, and the final draft work plan and the environmental state- <br />ment were approved for a public information meeting. Principles and <br />Standards requirements were developed. <br /> <br />d. Henry1yn watershed - The watershed investigation <br />report was completed. The preliminary investigation study is under <br />way. <br />
