Fairchild <br />August 19. 1974 <br />Page seven <br /> <br />The Trinidad Lake Proiect, under construction by the <br />Corps of Engineers. will provide flood protection for the city of <br />Trinidad and the Purgatoire River Valley. control sediment. and <br />conserve water for irrigation. <br /> <br />The contract for construction of the embankment <br />and for the relocation of the railroad and water supply line was <br />about 55 percent completed through FY 1974. The highway relocation <br />contract was about 95 percent complete. Overall. the project was <br />about 71 percent complete on July 1. 1974. <br /> <br />Construction continued on the Crooked Arroyo watershed <br />Proiect. located in Otero County. a Soil conservation Service <br />Small Watershed Project under Public Law 566. The project is <br />scheduled for completion in FY 1975. <br /> <br />South Platte River Basin <br /> <br />1. P1anninq Activities <br /> <br />Advance Planning and Feasibility Investigations performed <br />by the Bureau of Reclamation in FY 1974 include the following: <br /> <br />a. Armel Unit - The unit includes the existing <br />Bonny Dam and Reservoir and would provide for the construction of <br />the Armel Canal and Pumping Plant to supply irrigation water to <br />tablelands north and east of the dam. Studies to date indicate <br />that further investigations of the unit will not be recommended <br />until a more demonstrable need of the water supply arises. The <br />study is expected to be completed early in FY 1975. <br /> <br />b. Front Ranqe Unit - Feasibility studies were <br />initiated in FY 1970 and will investigate possibilities for future <br />construction of multipurpose dams and reservoirs in the South Platte <br />tributary streams in the Front Range area. Alternate reservoir <br />sites will be evaluated and consideration given for possible <br />integration with the COlorado-Big Thompson Project. Completion of <br />the report is scheduled for June 1975. <br /> <br />c. Upper South Platte Unit (Two Forks) - <br />Feasibility investigations have been under way since FY 1965. The <br />
