COORDINATION WITH OI'HER AGENCmS

(

In order to assure that the flood control operation of Paonia Reservoir
vill be as effective and reasonable as possible, it is essential that the
operating agency keep advised at all times of possible flood hazards,
weather, and snowpack conditions, inflow to the reservoir, and flow in
downstream tributaries. This requires close liaison vith other agencies,
including the National Weather Service, Soil Conservation Service, Geo-
logical Survey, and the Corps of Engineers.

27. FORECASTS OF INFLCY

The primary parameter for flood control operation of Paonia ~ and Reser-
voir is forecast of snO\/Dlelt inflow. All such inflow forecasts are prepared
by the Bureau of Reclamation, Salt Lake City, utah for undepleted flov.
'!'he methcxl employed for developnent of the forecast equation is multiple
regression fitting of the accumulated seasonal precipitation vater content
, ,
of the snowpack, and antecedent precipitation conditions. In the Muddy
Creek Basin very limited basic data are available for indexing these vari-
ables. As B. result, the snowpack is indexed by only one official snuv

19
