o
Ctj
o
.....,
(;;. use by the next direct flow priority rather then being
. ~
'.-...,'

stored in Eastdale reservoir.

.'

During 1968 as in past years when the flow in the Cerro

canal for use by Jaroso Mutual Ditch Company is in excess

of their requirements the excess is delivered to the East-

dale intake canal. This procedure is necessary for several

reasons. Under normal operating conditions the individual

farmers inform the ditch company of their anticipated needs

for the following week. The secretary or ditch rider for

the company then estimates the direct flow that mjght be

expected 80 that a determination of the amount of storage

water required for release from Costilla reservoir to meet

the total requirements can be made. Because of varying

losses between Costilla reservoir and the Jaroso area and

fluctuations in the direct flow it is unusual if the an-

ticipated needs and the deliveries are equal. When the

delivery exceeds the need the ditch company, rather than

spilling the water out the end of their canal system,

""'.,;

attempts to deliver the excess to Eastdale reservoir.
