Collaborate with the Soil Conservation Service and the State of <br />Colorado in defining the water yielding areas and their characteris- <br />tics in the Rio Grande River Basin, together with their water yields <br />and contributions to floodwater and sedimentation problems. <br /> <br />8. Make an analysis of forest resources sector of the economy. <br /> <br />9. Supply an appraisal of water needs of national forest and forest <br />based industries. <br /> <br />Soil Conservation Service. <br />Economic Research Service, <br /> <br />With assistance from the Forest Service and <br />this agency will: <br /> <br />1. Identify floodwater and sedimentation problems, and inventory the <br />loca.tion, nature, and extent of floodwater and sediment damage. <br /> <br />2. Develop information on land use and agricultural water management and <br />associated problems, and on the location, nature, and extent of <br />existing and potential agricultural land and water developments, <br />including upstream water storage opportunities with appropriate <br />associated agricultural, municipal and industrial, fish and wildlife, <br />and recreational requirements and opportunities, including projections <br />of future needs. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />3. Appraise the effect of present and future farm irrigation and drainage <br />practices and major water management and conveyance systems on water <br />use in the basin. Prepare summaries of past, current, and needed <br />flood prevention, agricultural water management improvements, fish <br />and wildlife, recreational, and associated local municipal and <br />industrial developments including storage sites, based on available <br />information. Analyze the needs and effects of these developments and <br />their relationship to other proposed or potential developments. <br /> <br />4. Make a field reconnaissance of possible RC&D project measures, Public <br />Law 566 projects, and other group projects and a determination of <br />their relationship to existing and potential water resource develop- <br />ments within the Rio Grande River Basin, including an estimate of <br />their probable feasibility. <br /> <br />5. Appraise the potential for acceleration of programs to aid in <br />attaining the Department's overall objectives for rural development <br />and for the improved use of land and water resources. <br /> <br />6. Appraise the potential of improved use of land and water resources <br />and project development for improvement of the basin's overall social <br />and economic conditions. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />- 11 - <br /> <br />
