This assistance would not <br />come through the Bureau of Reclamation. but would be the result of the <br />school disb'ict making applicat'ion for such aid thl"ough the Colorado <br />Department of Education. The Bureau of Reclamation will continue to work <br />with the Colorado Department of Edu.cation as well as the local school' <br />districts, in an effort to minimize adverse effects upon the Weldon Valley <br />$c hOD 1. <br /> <br /> <br />Severa'l courses .of action may be availabIe to the Weldon Valley <br />School District, as well as the surrounding districts, in regard to how to <br />best provide for the education of children residing in the area. The <br />ultimate decision of which one to choose rests with the districts involved. <br /> <br /> <br />"" <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />WHAT HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT ENVI.RONMENTAL CONSiDERATIONS? <br /> <br />An environmental impact statement was filed with the Council on <br />Environmental Quality in compliance with the National Environmental Policy <br />Act of 1969 on ,June 9, 1970. A new environmental impact statement is <br />presently in 'preparation. This new statement. is being prepared in lieu <br />of .the original statement to comply fully with current policies and guide- <br />lines. The new d)'aft EIS is expected to be available for public review <br />and comnent in December 1975 with public hearings on the draft statement <br />tentatively scheduled for January 1976. The final EIS is scheduled to be <br />filed in April 1976. Copies of the draft EIS will be distributed to all <br />known interested and/or affected entities,as soon as it has been filed <br />with the Council on Environmental Quality. Individuals can obtain copies <br />by request to the Reg'ional Director. Bureau of Reclamation. Lower Missouri <br />Region, Building 20, Denver Federal Center. Denver, Colorado' 80225. <br />Copies of the final EIS will be distributed to those receiving and/or <br />commenting On the draft EIS. Others desiring copies of the final EIS <br />can obtain Single copies by request. <br /> <br />A number of research and study projects were undertaken to provide <br />data for use in the prepariltion of the impact statement. Included were <br />an ecological analysis. a vector' analysis. a social assessment. and an <br />archeological and historical survey.
