Hopkins, Regional Engineers, Public Health Service, Kansas
City, Mo., and Representative of the Department of Health, Education,
and Welfare on the Missouri Basin Inter-Agency Committee, on the sub-
ject, "Some Public Health Aspects of Water Resource Developments;"
Mr. Stephan H. Robock, Director of Economic Research, Midwest Research
Institute, Kansas City, Mo., on "Water Resources and Industrial Develop-
ment." Major General John R Hardin, President, Mississippi River
Commission, explained the relationship and effect of AWR and Missouri
Basins developments on the Lower Mississippi Valley.

As an additional feature of the joint meeting, a day long
field inspection of the Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station
at Vicksburg and the Mississippi Basin Model at Clinton, Miss., was
provided under the guidance of the Director, Colonel A P. Rollins, Jr.

During separate business sessions held the day preceding the
joint aession, AWRBIAC received and accepted the large nylon map of
the basins in fulfillment of the first phase of the assignment to the
Ad Hoc Committee on AWR Basins Map. The map, together vith a similar
nylon map of the Missouri Basin, was displayed publicly for the first
time at the joint s8ssion the folloving day.

The March meeting provided for only a half-day general or
public session in contrast to the usual day session. It was devoted
entire11 to a discussion of the USDA Watershed Protection and Flood
Prevention Program as it is organized and handled at the state and
local level. This ~s in some respects a sequel to the presentation
at the September meeting at which time Public Law 566 and the national
aspects of the program vere discussed. Taking part in the March meet-
ing and each discussing various facets and aspects of the watershed
program from the state, local, and soil conservation districts' stand-
point were: Mr. John A. Short, Administrative Officer, Department of
Agriculture, Tulsa, Okla., and Department of Agriculture Representative
on AWRBIAC; M:r. Ray Walker, State Conservationist, Soil Conservation
Service, Still~ter, Okla.; Mr. Tarleton Jenkins, Soil Cunservation
Service, Fort Worth, Tex., appearing for Mr. Harral Allen, President
of the Sandy Creek Soil and Water Conservancy District; Mr. Hershel
Burrus, Executive Director, State Soil Conservation Board, Oklahoma
Cit1, Okla.; and Mr. Jack Adair, Assistant State Conservationist, Soil
Conservation Service, Still~ter, Okla.

In line with a groving feeling that occasionally a public
"program-type" meeting vas not on11 unnecessary, but also that the
business matters of AWRBIAC occasionally warrant a full day session,

7
