CJ

this phase that inter-agency integration and coordination must be
initiated if it is to be fully effective. Further, the committee
was requested to consider, among other things, such matters as notices
of investigations, field level review of reports, and periodic or con-
tinuing reports of current and contemplated agency programs and
activities. Colonel John J. Ledbetter, representing the State of Texas,
was named Chairman of ,the Committee which vas composed of representa-
tives of four Federal agencies - Agriculture, Commerce, Corps of Engineers,
and the Bureau of Recls~tion. At the May meeting in Fort Worth, at the
request of the Ad Hoc Committee Chairman, the Department of Health, Edu-
cation, and Welfare and the Federal Power Commission were added to member-
ship on the Ad Hoc Committee.

(~}

~
~
~
~

As of June 30, 1957, the Ad Hoc Committee has made definite
progress tovard its goal of developing and recommending a procedure
which will accomplish the purpose of its mission. As a step in that
direction, all Federal agencies having an interest and responsibility
in the development of the AWR Basins have been asked to prepare a state-
ment as to present procedures followed in exchanging information with
other agencies concerning their programs and review of their reports.
The response and cooperation to this request has been very gratifying.
The Committee expects also to request the States of the basins to furnish
statements as to their procedures and activities as well as expressions
of the type of information and reports from Federal agencies that will be
most valuable to them. It is further planned to have at an early meeting,
possibly in September 1957, each of the construction agencies report by
, basins and sub-basins the projects they have in the planning stage and
under construction, discussing particularly exchange and clearance pro-
cedures being employed, so that other agencies and the States can deter-
mine where there may be specific problema of coordination.

Based upon this collection of information on present procedures,
expressions of needs and interests, demonstration of present problems, and
other pertinent statements, the Committee expects to be able to recommend
to AWRBIAC within the near future a procedure or procedures which will
facilitate and improve the exchange of pertinent program information be-
tween concerned interests in the basins.

The Ad Hoc Committee on AWR Basins Map, appointed at the Dallas,
Texas meeting in January 1956, vas discussed in considerable detail both
as to assignment and progress in the 1955-56 Report. Only brief mention
of accomplishment during this year will be made here.

Work on the nylon map of the Basins approved by AWRBIAC in
May 1956 to satisfy the first phase of the Committee's assignment which
vas to ~evelop a large vall map, which would be readily portable, for
use as a backdrop and reference for Committee meetings and other meetings

12
