<br /> 0 <br /> r-:-"" <br /> ~ <br /> W <br /> -J <br />'. to- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />pertinent to the AWR Basins, was stated by the technicians of the <br />Corps of Engineers, Dallas, Tex., in July 1956 under the supervision <br />and guidance of a special technical subcommittee composed of a <br />representative of the Departments of Agriculture, A:J:my, and Interior. <br /> <br />The completed map of nylon, resplendent with many colors, <br />was presented to AWRBIAC at the January 1957 meeting in Vicksburg, <br />Mississippi. The map, 8 feet by 11 feet to a scale of 1/500,000, <br />depicts in unique cartographic style, the existing and authorized <br />water and related land resources development activities in the three <br />basins, yet J1JB.y be folded and carried in a standard 12" x 14" mnlla <br />envelope. The mp J1JB.y be readily displayed flat against a wallar <br />J1JB.y be'~unted on a specially designed portable telescoping and ex- <br />pandable stand which was built for use with the map. <br /> <br />Accepted by AWRBIAC as completion of the first phase of the <br />Ad Hoc Collllll1ttee's assignment, the mp 16 in the permanent custody of <br />the Secretary of AWRBIAC. It _y be obtained from the Seoretary tor <br />use at lllBetings, displays, and other gatherings related to resources <br />devel.opmant ot the Basins. <br /> <br />The other two phases of the Committee's assignment, wall <br />III&PS tor members I headquarters and small hand-out type III&pS for <br />intormation and publiC distribution purposes, have been deterred tor <br />f'urther study. It is anticipated that early consideration will be <br />given to these items and recommendations formulated to AWRBIAC. The <br />Ad Hoo Collllll1ttee is composed ot representatives of the States of <br />Missouri and New Mexico, and the Departments ot Army, Health, Education, <br />and Welfare, and Interior. Mr. H. S. Varner, Jr., Interior, servea as <br />Chairman ot the Committee. <br /> <br />The fifth committee which has been active during the year <br />is the Ad Hoo Committee on Application of the term "Pollution," which <br />vas appointsd at the November 1956 lllBeting in Hot Springs, Arkansas. <br />The Committee grew out ot a discussion which raised the question as <br />to whether the term "pollution," as generally used and as used in tha <br />various talks and preaentations,at the Hot Springs meeting, vas in- <br />tended to include natural dissolved mineral content as vell as mn-mde <br />pollution. The Committee lIB.a instructed: <br /> <br />(a) To study the matter ot the use ot the word "pollution" <br />as it lIig\1t athct the activities of the Arkansas-White-Red River <br />llas1ns and to recOlllllBnd to AWRBIAC what it _y do to clarify the tena <br />"pollution," with emphasis on the problem at natural pollution. <br /> <br />Membership in the Collllll1 ttee is all tollows: Representatives <br />at the States ot Arkansaa, Oklahoma, and Texas, the Departments ot <br />Agriculture, Health, Education, and Welfare, and Interior.
