<br />interpretive studies of water resources on a regional and national <br /> <br />level. Operation of many of the monitoring stations is cost shared <br /> <br />wi th the Basin states. <br /> <br />The USGS continues to cooperate with <br /> <br />o <br />en <br />-.J <br />,.j::. <br /> <br />Reclamation, USDA and BLM on site-specific assessments of salinity <br /> <br />control measures. <br /> <br />The Council commends the USGS for its <br /> <br />coordination and support role in salinity control activities such <br /> <br />as NASQAN activities at 11 of 20 key locations which Reclamation <br /> <br />- <br />uses for salinity accounting in the Basin. However, the Council <br /> <br />is concerned with the hesitancy of the USGS to request adequate <br /> <br />funding for continuing basic data collection. <br /> <br />Department of Agriculture <br /> <br />In each of the USDA salinity project areas a large number of <br /> <br />farmers are awaiting technical assistance and cost-share funds in <br /> <br />order to proceed with implementation. <br /> <br />Farmers already in the <br /> <br />program are demonstrating their willingness to proceed by <br /> <br />installing salinity reduction practices ahead of schedule. <br /> <br />This <br /> <br />effective USDA program is being severely curtailed because of <br /> <br />inadequate funding. The Council urges USDA to diligently pursue <br />adequate Colorado River Salinity Control (CRSC) line item funding <br /> <br />for personnel, equipment, and cost sharing to assure that program <br /> <br />implementation schedules are met. The Council appreciates USDA's <br /> <br />resolution of the tax questions involving cost-share funds. <br /> <br />Uinta Basin Unit. <br /> <br />The Council continues to be impressed with <br /> <br />the excellent progress in implementing the USDA onfarm program, as <br /> <br />well as the outstanding working relationship between individual <br />, <br /> <br />farmers and USDA personnel. The Council urges USDA to finalize the <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />" <br />
