The Council urges Reclamation to continue to seek <br /> <br />adequate funding to continue construction of this program in FY <br /> <br />1992. <br /> <br />Uinta Basin Unit. The Council is pleased that the Secretary <br /> <br />of the Interior formally submitted the completed planning report <br /> <br />and final environmental impact statement on Stage I of the Uinta <br /> <br />Basin Unit to the Office of Management and Budget for advice and <br /> <br />consideration. <br /> <br />The Council recommends authorization of the unit <br /> <br />for construction. <br /> <br />San Juan River Unit. The Council recommends that Reclamation <br /> <br />continue planning activities in cooperation with USDA to further <br /> <br />define the salt load source and salt load reduction potential in <br /> <br />the San Juan River Unit. <br /> <br />This effort should culminate in the <br /> <br />release of a planning report and environmental impact statement. <br /> <br />Bureau of Land Management <br /> <br />It has been determined that by the turn of the century, more <br /> <br />than 1,400,000 tons of salt must be removed from the River system <br /> <br />each year in order to maintain the adopted numeric criteria. The <br /> <br />BLM is the largest land manager in the Basin, and lands <br /> <br />administered by the BLM are significant contributors of salt to the <br /> <br />river. <br /> <br />Therefore, the Council is extremely pleased with the <br /> <br />efforts of the Utah study team and the Utah Rangeland Salinity <br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />j.~ <br />
