<br />15 <br /> <br /> <br />(lJ135~ <br /> <br />STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES, PROCEDURES, AND <br /> <br />PROGRAM OF THE PHREATOPHYTE TECHNICAL SUBCOMMITTEE <br /> <br />FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />1. It is the ultimate objective of the Phreatophyte Subcommittee to guide <br />and assist member agencies in lines of endeavor which will lead to <br />answers concerning benefits and costs of phreatophyte control as a <br />measure of the worth of such programs. <br /> <br />2, To define the phreatophyte problem and its relation to water loss and <br />salvage, sedimentation, flood control, recreation, and other uses both <br />benefi cial and non-beneficial. <br /> <br />3, To determine the geogrophic extent of phreotophyte areas, their com- <br />position and changes in vegetotive cover and economic importance of <br />the various species, <br /> <br />4. To keep in close contact with all phases of research and control activities <br />on phreatophytes and evaluate the results obtained. <br /> <br />5. To coordinate research activities and avoid duplication insofar as <br />practicable, and to point out and stimulate research on problems where <br />information and data are needed. <br /> <br />6. To serve as an authoritative source of information on the phreotophyte <br />problem, maintain liaison and a working relationship with other groups, <br />committees, or bodies concerned with the problem, such as the Inter- <br />Agency Weed Committee. <br /> <br />7. To take the lead in resolving the phreatophytic problem either by devising <br />methods of controll ing the plonts or by developing increased beneficial <br />uses for them. <br /> <br />8. To keep the parent committee ond member agencies currenl'ly informed <br />of developments and of.proposed projects in the field of phreatophytes, <br /> <br />9 . To assembl e and maintain at 0 central point (Arizona State University <br />Library) 0 library of technical publications dealing with phreatophytes, <br /> <br />10, To disseminate information on phreatophytes to interested parties upon <br />their request, either through subcommittee publications or by encouraging <br />pl,lblications by member agencies. <br />
