We urge Congress to maintain the <br />funding requested by the President for construction on four <br /> <br />other on-going projects--the Closed Basin, Dallas Creek, <br /> <br />Dolores, and Fryingpan-Arkansas Projects. Each of these is <br /> <br />nearing completion and should be a high priority for funding, <br /> <br />Furthermore, the Closed Basin Project will benefit both New <br /> <br />Mexico and Texas and, as mentioned above, the Dolores Project <br /> <br />is an integral component of the Ute Indian water rights <br /> <br />settlement. <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation (Colorado River Salinity) <br /> <br />The seven states of the Colorado River Basin have endorsed <br /> <br />a coordinated, basinwide approach to the reduction of salinity <br /> <br />in the Colorado River, The salinity control units being <br />planned and constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation are an <br /> <br />integral component of the overall salinity control program. We <br /> <br />would call your attention to the detailed statement being <br /> <br />submitted on behalf of the seven basin states, acting through <br /> <br />the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum, in which <br /> <br />statement Colorado concurs, The Forum seeks, and Colorado <br /> <br />supports, the sums set forth in the above "Summary of Requests," <br /> <br />Colorado is particularly concerned about the lack of <br /> <br />funding in the President's proposed budget for construction on <br /> <br />the Lower Gunnison Salinity Control Unit (winter water system) <br /> <br />and the inadequate funding which is proposed for continuing <br /> <br />-6- <br />
