F <br />I , <br />L <br />E <br /> <br />~ <br />-. <br /> <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br />June 11, 1993 <br /> <br />Base Price for Central Arizona Project Water Rises to $59.50 <br /> <br />A new base price of $59.50 per acre-foot for water delivered by the Central Arizona Project (CAP) has <br />been established by the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CA WCD) board of directors. <br />Up from $53 per acre-foot, the new price will take effect October 1 and will continue through June 30, <br /> <br />1994. <br /> <br />The CA WCD operates and maintains the CAP, which delivers Colorado River water to municipal and <br /> <br />industrial (M&I) users, non-Indian agricultural districts and Indian reservations in Maricopa. Pinal and pjma <br /> <br />counties. <br /> <br />In other actions taken Wednesday while meeting in Tucson, the CA WCD board voted to: <br /> <br />--Raise the capital charge M&I customers must pay toward repayment of the CAP construction loan <br /> <br />from $6 per acre-foot of water for the maximum entitlement in 1994, to an annual rate of $9 from January 1 <br /> <br />through June 30,1994, and to an annual rate of $12 from July 1 through December 31,1994. <br /> <br />M&I users include cities, towns, private water companies and mines. An acre-foot of water contains <br /> <br />325,851 gallons, which will cover an acre of ground--43 ,560 square feet--to a depth of 12 inches. <br /> <br /> <br />Non-Indian agricultural districts will pay $59.50 per acre-foot of water staning October 1. For any <br /> <br />water delivered after October 1,1993 the districts also will pay $2 per acre-foot as a capital cost. <br /> <br />The only Indian community presently receiving water is the Ale-Chin in Pinal County. The U.S. government is <br />obligated to pay the $59.50 base price for water delivered to the reservation. <br /> <br />--Enforce a provision in contracts with non-Indian agricultural districts requiring them to pay a portio" <br /> <br />of the CAP's base price for all water allocated to them whether or not they order it. The portion of the base <br /> <br />price the districts must pay staning October 1 is $22.50 per acre-foot. <br /> <br />-more- <br />
