,

.

.

C:' ADD 1.. CAWCD TAX
'00
,'J
e"';
r
1;:, levy is imposed in those counties only. The money raised in each county is

expendable only for projects in the county where the money is collected.

-A $67 million budget for the fiscal year slatting July I, 1992, and ending June 30,

1993.

Besides the property (ad valorem) tax, CAWCD activities are funded by the sale of

water and electricity. Colorado River water is delivered to cities, industries, agricultural

districts and Indian reservations in the CA WCD's three county service area.

This is the second year for the four cent recharge project tax levy in Maricopa and

Pima counties. Pinal County is excluded from the tax.

The tax was authorized in a law approved by the Arizona Legislature in 1990. The

law requires that recharge projects and expenditures constructed with this tax be approved by

the Arizona Department of Water Resources (DWR).

All waters under this law are available for disposition by DWR. The DWR director

can make the stored recharge water available if either of the following conditions apply:

1. "The amount of CAP water available for delivery to CAP municipal and

industrial subcontractors is insufficient to meet the contractual entitlements of

the subcontractors.

2. '"There is a significant interruption of the district's ability to make deliveries of

CAP water in the county for the benefit of which the state demonstration

project was constructed."

end
