The fIxed cost, which pays for operating and maintaining the CAP, will rise from the current $17 per <br /> <br />acre-foot of water to $22.50 on October 1. The energy costs, which pays for the electricity used to operate the <br /> <br />CAP's pumps, will rise from the current $36 to $37 on October 1. Together, the fixed cost of $22.50 and the <br />energy cost of $37 add up to the new base price of $59.50. <br />--Hire former Reps. John J. (Jay) Rhodes III, R-Arizona, and Ray Kogovsek, D-Colorado, and the law <br />fIrm of Birch, Horton, Bittner and Cherot of Washington, D.C., to represent the CA WCD in Washington. <br />Rhodes and Kogovsek will be paid $6,000 per month. Birch, Horton, Bittner and Cherot will be paid $2,000 p~ <br />month. Rhodes was a member of the CA WCD board of directors before being elected to the U.S. House of <br /> <br />Representatives in 1986. He was defeated for reelection last vear. <br /> <br />--Participate in state demonstration water recharge projects in Pima and Maricopa couClties. <br /> <br />In Pima County the Pin1a Mine Road Project will be in partnership with the city of Tucson and will COSI <br /> <br />about $4 million to start, the CAweD's $2 million comin!, from already collected State Demonstration Proieet <br /> <br />propeny taxes. Initially, the project calls for recharging 10,000 acre-feet of water per year at a site on P:ma <br /> <br /> <br />Mine Road south of the San Xavier Indian Reservation and two miles east of the CAP terminus. <br /> <br />In Maricopa County, CA WCD will participate with the city of Avondale in the fIrst phase of an under- <br />ground water storage and recovery project in Avondale near the Agua Fria River. The CA WCD will provide $2 <br /> <br />million of the $7 million cost. the CA WCD's funds also..,<;oming from pr~viol1sly collected State Demonstration <br /> <br />Project property taxes. Initially, 5,000 acre-feet of water per year will be recharged into the ground. Over time, <br />the plan is to expand the project to 40,000 acre-feet of water per year. <br /> <br />--Develop a policy for providing CAP water for environmental enhancement. <br /> <br />-end- <br />
