Preproject fishery resources.- Florida Project would affect the Florida
River for a distance of three miles upstream and for about 21 miles do'WII-
stream from the proposed dam site. These reaches of the Florida River pro-
vide the angler with spo,rt fishing for rainbow and brown trout. There is
no commercial fishery. The three miles upstream from the dam site and 11
of the 21 miles dO'WIIstream are considered average fishing waters. The
remaining 10 miles, due to low nows during some periods, do not have as
high a fishery value. The Florida River from a point 21 miles below the
dam site to the mouth has little value as trout habitat. At times it
becomes a dry stream, and these periods usually occur during the fishing
season.

20. Florida River above the Florida Fanners Ditch diversion is popular
with anglers. Good catches of rainbow ani bro'WII trout are reported,
especially during the early part of the fishing season. A few brook
trout are caught, but t,.d.s species is not now being stocked. The Colorado
Game and Fish Department currently is concentrating its efforts on stock-
ing rainbow and bro'WII trout in this area.

21. Consideration of all available data indicates that the 24 miles of
stream affected ~ the project have an annual preproject fishery value
of about $3,900, as sho'WII in Table 3.

22. Postproject fishery resources.- Lemon Reservoir would inundate three
miles of Florida River, thus eliminating this reach as fishing stream.
Operation of the reservoir as proposed would result in a lower minimum

5
