<br />0020% <br /> <br />Introduction (Contd.) <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MUNICIPAL WATER <br /> <br />City of Norton, Kansas <br /> <br />Norton Reservoir provides storage for the municipal water supply of <br />Norton, Kansas. The repayment contract provides a maximum of 1,600 Bere- <br />feet annually to the City of Norton, Kansas. Initial delivery was <br />made on September 6, 1965. <br /> <br />City of Beloit, Kansas <br /> <br />A contract has been executed to furnish a municipal water supply of <br />2,000 acre-feet to the City of Beloit, Kansas, from Waconda Lake <br />when completed. An interim contract has been executed for a aupply <br />of storage water not to exceed 1,000 acre-feet per year from Webster <br />Reservoir until such time as Glen Elder Dam is completed. <br /> <br />City of Russell, Kansas <br /> <br />Cedar Bluff Reaervoir providea storage to supplement the municipal <br />water supply of the City of Ruasell, Kansas. A contract with the <br />City has been executed for a storage supply not to exceed 2,000 acre- <br />feet per year. <br /> <br />FISH HATCHERY <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A United States Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife warm-water <br />fish hatchery is in operation below Cedar Bluff Reservoir. A maximum <br />of 4,000 acre-feet of reservoir storage per year is allocated for fish <br />hatchery use. <br /> <br />OTHER FUNCTIONS <br /> <br />A "Statement of Operational Objectives" for Harlan County Reservoir <br />was adopted by representatives of the Federal and State and local <br />interests in June 1952. The statement sets forth the general operational <br />objectives and the specific reservoir uses considered desirable, such <br />as the fish and wildlife interests will be best served by high pool <br />levels with minimum fluctuations and the regulation of outflow in <br />excess of minimum requirements insofar as feasible. The statement <br />recognizes that to assure realization of the greatest public benefits, <br />operation plans should be sufficiently comprehensive to permit the <br />maximum integration of the secondary uses consistent with the primary <br />purposes of flood control and irrigation, <br /> <br />Insofar aB practicable, the above objectives is followed for operation <br />of all reBervoirs in the Kansas River Projects, The maintenBnce <br />of regulated outflow in excess of minimum requirements will be of some <br />advantage to farmers, industries, cities and other interests below all <br />reservoirB in the KBnsas River Projects. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />5 <br />
