The landa in the Frenchman Valley Irrigation District have <br />been irrigated since the 1890s, Supplemental storsge was first delivered <br />to these lands under repayment contrsct in 1958. The H&RW Irrigation <br />District operated and maintained the Culbertson Extension System for the <br />first time in 1963. The Isnds in these districts lie to the north of the <br />Frenchman Creek and the Republican River snd from palisade to approxi- <br />mately three miles east of McCook, Nebraska, Endera Reservoir provides <br />storage water for both districts. The transportation of water from <br />Enders Reservoir through 52 miles of the Frenchman Creek to the Culbertson <br />Diversion Dam created an erosion problem that made it necessary to <br />initiate 8 construction program in 1964 to restore private access, protect <br />the private and public improvements, to stabilize various reaches of <br />channel banks and to remove excess sediment from the csnsl at the head- <br />works settling baain, This program is to be continued in 1966. The <br />sediment losd carried by the stream at the Culbertson Diversion Dsm ia <br />several times the amount that was estimated in the original plan, <br /> <br />Frenchman-Cambridge Irrigation District <br /> <br />All of the major construction to provide service to the planned 43,190 <br />acres of land in the Frenchman-Cambridge Irrigation District was completed <br />in July 1964, These lands are situated, primarily in the Republican River <br />Valley extending from Swanson Lake to Harlan County Reservoir, Swanson, <br />Hsrry Strunk and Hugh Butler Lakes provide storage for these Isnds. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Almena Irrigation District No.5 <br /> <br />Norton Reservoir will provide storage for the irrigation <br />of land in the Almena Irrigation District. All <br />of the major construction is completed. <br /> <br />Kansas-Bostwick Irrigation District No, 2 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Construction work hss been essentially completed with service avsilable <br />to 37,478 acres, Minor construction during the next few yesrs will increase <br />the diatrict acreage to about 40,000, Storage water for these lands is <br />provided by Harlan County and Lovewell Reservoirs. Lovewell serves as <br />both a regulating and storage reservoir. The Courtland Canal system <br />above Lovewell Dam is constructed to serve 11,863 acres of district lands <br />as well as to transport Republican River flows and Harlan County storage <br />releases ss required to Lovewell Reservoir. The Courtland Csnal system <br />below Lovewell Dsm serves the remaining 25,615 screa of district lands. <br />The Kansas-Bostwick Irrigation District lands are situated in the Republican <br /> <br />3 <br />
