FISH AND WILDLIFE

i

COLORADO

state policy provides that wildlife and its habitat be protected,

preserved, enhanced, and managed for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

Colorado's management objectives for wildlife include:

a. maintenance of populations and habitats of all game and wildlife, and

to increase the numbers of animals and opportunities for their public
enjoyment,
b. acquisition and management of an additional 7,000 acres of statewide

cold-water fisheries habitat by 1983 and maintenance of a wide

variety of fishing activity including designated fly and/or lure

waters, trophy waters, and wild trout waters,

c. implementation of warm-water habitat improvement and corrective

stocking to obtain a more desirable mix of panfish species with

placement of special emphasis on improving the panfish resource in

urban areas to provide a handy fishing opportunity,

d. maintenance of all species in sufficient numbers to ensure the

existence of stable, natural communities, and

e. protection of nongame species.

Also, an updated wetlands inventory should be carried out in the Missouri

River Basin portion of Colorado by State and Federal agencies. This inventory

should lead to an analysis of the water requirements of critical wetlands and

of restoration of certain wetlands. Concurrent studies of riparian habitat

necessary to support desired levels and variety of fish and wildlife population

should be carried out.

IOWA
Where streams having exceptional recreation and fish and wildlife uses

G-12
