18

REPORT OF COLORADO RIVER' COMMISSION OF NEVADA

eliminated by the site selection committee chosen by the Atomic Energy Como,
mission to evaluate approximately 125 proposals from areas throughout the
United States.
A site has been chosen by the Bureau of Reclamation in the northern part
of the valley for installation of a $50,000,000 substation which, among other
things, becomes the terminus of the large' DC power line between the Columbia
River and this area. This station has as its principal function the conversion
of alternating current to direct current and from direct current to alter-
nating current, as operation might dictate. To accommodate this facility,
named the Mead Substation, and the copnecting transmission lines the com-
mission has relinquished to the United States the right to purchase approxi-
mately 4,500 acres of the Eldorado Valley lands lying just south of the
southern limits of Boulder City.
The Southern California Edison Company will. construct a substation, to
be known as the Eldorado Substation, upon the Eldorado Valley lands, which
installation will be used to interconnect the Mead Substation with the facili-
ties of Southern California Edison Company.
