16

REPORT OF COLORADO RIVER COMMISSION OF NEVADA

be constructed later and when the entire project is completed it will be capa-
ble of delivering over 300,000 acre feet of water into the valleys. The com-
mission will deliver water through the conduit to serve the areas now served
by the Las Vegas Valley Water District, North Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force
Base, Henderson, Boulder City, and Eldorado Valley. Water will be delivered
wholesale only to these areas, with the individual political entities distribut-
ing the water within their respective areas.
Construction funds are being sought in the second session of the 89th Con-
gress for initiation of actual construction early in 1967. The project would
then be completed in 1969 or 1970.
The cost of the project will be repaid to the United States within 50 years,
with interest, by the commission. In turn, the commission will enter into con-
tracts with the political entities previously named, which contracts will insure
revenues sufficient to meet the obligations of the commission for amortization
and for operation and maintenance of the project.
