<br />oa2538 <br /> <br />REPORT OF COLORADO RIVER COMMISSION OF NEVADA <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />SOUTHERN NEVADA WATER SUPPLY PROJECT <br /> <br />The Southern Nevada Water Supply Project took one more step toward <br />becoming a reality with the passage by Congress on November 22, 1965, of <br />Public Law 89-292 authorizing construction of the project by the United <br />States Bureau of Reclamation. However, when the President signed this act <br />of Congress into law he stated, in part, as follows: <br />". . . However, during the course of this legislation through the Congress <br />a rider in the form of Section 6 was added to it without consultation with <br />any executive agency . . . <br />"In these circumstances I have asked the Secretary of the Interior to develop <br />legislation which would amend Section 6 to limit its effect to that intended <br />by the Congress. . ." <br />The enabling legislation pertaining to the Colorado River Commission was <br />amended by the State Legislature in 1965 to provide for the operation of the <br />project works by the commission following completion of construction. <br />The project will consist of seven pumping plants, a 4Yz-mile tunnel and <br />about 30 miles of conduit to deliver approximately 135,000 acre feet into <br />the Las Vegas and Eldorado Valleys.
