SUMMARY OF YOY FALL ISMP SAMPLING - MOAB

All trips were completed as planned in the latter part of September.
The 1994 squawfish collections in the Green River were much lower than
1993 levels, In 1993, a total of 1571 YOY squawfish were collected
where only 350 were found this year. The Colorado was not quite as
bad, although still lower. The average size of YOY squawfish this fall
was ~Omm. This is much larger than the usual 35-45mm reported in the
ISMP summary of results, 1986-1992,

Many YOY and adult green sunfish were collected in both rivers.

1994 ISMP YOUNG-OF-THE-YEAR MONITORING - UPPER GREEN

Sampling for the subject study was conducted 5 October to 7 October. A
total of 42 baCKwaters (2 per 5-mile reach) were sampled. The 2
reaches between RM 260 and RM 250 were sampled on 27 September as part
of the nursery habitat studies at Ouray NWR. Although water and
weather conditions differed between the 2 sampling periods, results
were consistent (i.e" few native fishes encountered) and nursery
habitat data were used for these reaches.

Only 15 Colorado squawfish were captured, 12 in one seine haul at
RM 227,8. Squawfish ranged from 60 to 80 mm in length with a mean
length of 67.2 Mm. The primary baCKwater in the RM 255-250 reach had
squawfish at the mouth (27 September), but not in the required 1/3 and
