<br />2/3 seine hauls. An additional 6 squawfish were captured in an <br />opportunistic seine haul in an otherwise unsamp1ed backwater at <br />RM 264.8. <br /> <br />Eighteen Gila sp, were encountered. Fin ray counts classified all but <br />one as roundtai1 chubs. These fish measured 40-163 rnm with mean length <br />of 66.83 mm. Additional native fishes encountered included: 61 <br />bluehead suckers (40-85 rom; mean length 55.42 mm [n=45]), 124 <br />flannelmouth suckers (35-115 mm; mean length 59.52 mm [n=94]), 10 <br />speckled dace (25-54 rom; mean length 39.00 mrn {n=8]) and 10 unknown <br />suckers (25-42 mm; mean length 34.11 [n=9]), These data are presented <br />in Table 3 (appended). <br /> <br />The most common species encountered were red shiners and fathead <br />minnows. Sand shiners, carp, green sunfish, white sucker and black <br />crappie also were captured. <br /> <br />Bagged samples from 21 primary backwaters are being count~d and <br />classified. These data will be presented in the required year-end <br />report. <br /> <br />ISMP POST-JUVENILE/ADULT MONITORING - UPPER GREEN <br /> <br />A total of 122 Colorado squawfish was captured during monitoring <br />activities in April and May, the greatest number since monitoring <br />began. An additional 41 were observed, but not netted, Squawfish <br />ranged in size from 128-741 mm (mean = 474.3 mm) and from 10-4250 g <br />(mean = 1002.8 g), The catch rate for squawfish was 2.13 fish/hour. <br />Nine of the fish caught were recaptures of fish originally marked as <br />far back as 1987. More detailed information is given in the appended <br />tables (4-6). <br /> <br />In addition to ISMP captures, a squawfish measuring 420 mm and weighing <br />850 g was caught at RM 295.8 while testing equipment the day before <br />monitoring began. Anglers reported catching 4 squawfish. One fish was <br />caught along The Stirrup (RM 276 - RM 270) in early July; I at the <br />Gates of Lodore (RM 363.4) on 29 July; 1 at the Yampa-Green (RM 344.8) <br />confluence on 31 July; and I on the Yampa 3-4 miles above Maybell on <br />29 July, <br /> <br />Five razorback suckers were captured, all in the Jensen reach (3 on <br />Razorback bar, I at the Escalante Ranch and I at Ashley Creek). These <br />fish ranged 420-547 mm (mean = 499.2 mrn) long and 725-2000 g (mean = <br />1400.0 g). The catch rate for razorbacks was 0.36 fish/hour in the <br />Jensen reach and 0.09 /hour overall. All 3 of the fish caught at <br />Razorback Bar were recaptures. <br /> <br />A total of 6 roundtail chubs was netted, half in the Jensen reach. <br />These fish ranged 185-355 mm long (mean = 284.0 mm) and 120-420 g <br />(265,8 g), The catch rate for these fish was 0,12 fish/hour.
