Project Title: Standardized Monitoring - Utah

II, Principal Investigators:
Leo Lentsch, Kevin Christopherson, Keith Day
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
1596 West North 1emple
Salt Lake City, UT 84116
(801)538-4756 fax: (801)538-4709
email: "NRDOMAIN.nrdwr.LLentsch@email.state.UT.US.

III. Project Summary:

This project monitors populations of endangered fishes in Utah. The
following objectives have been outlined for post-larval, late
juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish:

I. Develop annual indices of relative abundance.
2. Determine populations trends,
3, Determine relationships between these trends and other
environmental parameters,
4. Develop annual indices of relative abundance of sympatric species,

IV, Study Schedule:
a. Initial year:
b, Final year:

1986
ongoing

, V, Relationship to RIPRAP: General Recovery Program Support Action Plan,
V,A,I. Conduct standardized monitoring program,

VI, Accomplishments of FY 94 Tasks and Deliverables, Discussion of Initial
Findings and Shortcomings: Collection and computerization of
adult/juvenile and young of the year sampling as delineated in the ISMP
handbook.

SUMMARY OF ADULT ISMP SAMPLING 1994 - MOAB

All adult ISMP sampling trips were completed as planned. The Wildcard
(WC) reach was chosen to cover a suspected squawfish spawning site
around Millard Canyon. Few squawfish were found there. No ripe
individuals were observed. Most of the adult squawfish collected were
between 400 and 550 mm, coinciding with the 1986 and 1988 year classes,
The squawfish catch in the Green River was lower than in 1993 when 82
CS were collected, but up from last year's 17 in the Colorado River.
The recapture rate was 21,4% in the Colorado River, and 13.3% in the
Green River, The data have been entered and delivered to USFWS.

In addition to squawfish, 5 Gila spp, were collected in the Colorado
River, Worthy of note was the humpback chub recaptured at RH 54;0 in
the Green River that had previously been tagged in the Colorado River
at RM 206,9,

Non-native species of interest were 1 walleye, I smallmouth bass, and I
largemouth bass on the Colorado River. Many green sunfish were
