5. Klamath River Basin, Oregon, This is a comprehensive study
of the euthrophication problems of Upper Klamath Lake and Lake
Ewauna, and interrelated basin problems. The District is currently
preparing a Reconnaissance Report which will define the problems,
provide background information, establish planning objectives,
develop and screen conceptual alternative plans, establish a course
of action for the conduct of the study, and serve as a coordination
document for informing other interested parties.

6.Pajaro River Basin. 'On 20 October 1978, the South Pacific
DivisTOn Engineer issued his Public Notice on the completion of
the Review Report for Flood Control and Allied Purposes in the
Pajaro River Basin. It found that needed flood control improve-
ments on Uvas-Carnadero Creek near Gilroy are similar in type and
scope to those previously authorized (but not constructed) by the
Flood Control Act of 1944 (Public Law 78-534). It was concluded
that there is no need for additional project authorization in order
to pursue a flood control project on Uvas-Carnadero Creek, As
a result of these studies, the project authorized in 1944 has been
reclassified as an "active" project, Advanced engineering and
design studies for this project would commence upon receipt of
AE&D funding. The study also concluded that there is no Federal
interest at this time in developing in-basin multiple purpose dam
and reservoir projects for flood control, water supply and other
related purposes.

7. ' Sari FranCiscO Bay Shoreline Stud}'. This is a new start for
Fiscal Year 1979 to investigate the flood and related problems to
those lands lying below the plan~'of mean higher high water along
the San Francisco Bay shoreline in San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda,
Napa, Sonoma and Solano Counties,to the confluence of the Sacramento
and San Joaquin Rivers with a view toward determing the feasibility
of and the Federal interest in providing protection against tidal
and fluvial flooding. The investigation shall evaluate the effects
of any proposed improvements on wildlife preservation, agriculture,
municipal and urban interests in coordination with Federal, State,
regional and local agencies with particular reference to preservation
of existing marshland in the San ,Francisco Bay region. The initial
public meetings will be held in the study area in January 1979.

8. Ventura River Basin. On 18 August 1978 the Los Angeles District
distributed for field level review a draft letter report concluding
that no Corps flood control improvements in the Ventura River Basin
are justified at this time.

9. SacramentO'River and Tributaries
COIitrO. e acramento ' 1n t1a pu 1C meet1ngs
or t 1S study in Red Bluff and Sacramento on 7 and 12 September
1978, respectively. Meetings were sponsored by the Reclamation
Board, State of California.

C-42
