The final report for this study is pending receipt <br />of State of California position regarding the President's proposed <br />revisions on cost-sharing between Federal and non-Federal interests. <br /> <br />11. Puerco River Gallup, New Mexico. On 20 October 1978, the <br />Los Angeles District distributed for field level review, a draft <br />feasibility report recommending local protective works and recreation <br />on Puerco River, Gallup, New Mexico. Recommended improvements <br />included modification of existing levees, construction of new <br />levees, land use regulation practices, and a recreational trail. <br />The cost of the proposed plan is $2.2 million. <br /> <br />SPECIAL STUDIES <br /> <br />1. Santa Cruz Harbor. The project to mitigate the harbor shoaling <br />has been delayed. By a letter dated 17 June 1978, the Port District <br />advised us that it will not be able to fund its portion of any of <br />the proposed systems. Legislation has been introduced that could <br />authorize full Federal funding, however, until the bill is passed, <br />further work on a permanent solution will be delayed. <br /> <br />2. National Dam Ins~ection Program. All Dam Inventory work <br />scheduled in FY 1978 for California, Nevada, and Utah has been <br />completed. The State of California plans to complete 40 Phase I <br />reports by May 1979, all visual inspections have been accomplished, <br />and 24 partially completed reports on them have been received. All <br />Phase I reports for Nevada have. been submitted to the State Engineer <br />for review and comment. Two of the inspected Nevada dams were <br />found to be potentially hazardous and the Governor was notified. <br />State of Utah has performed 40 visual inspections and portions of <br />Phase I reports have been submitted to the District for review. <br />Also, inspection of 33 non-Federal dams in Arizona has been completed. <br /> <br />CODE no RECREATION PROGRAM <br /> <br />1. 'Santa Fe Dam. The second construction contract for recreational <br />facilities (Phase II) has been initiated. <br /> <br />2. 'Whittier Narrows Dam. Construction contracts for the Charro <br />Arena, the Visitor Center, and for Area B, Phase lA, picnic area, <br />have been completed. ' <br />
