U02879

November 28, 1978
78-3 PSIAC Minutes

CWIC REPORT:

Presented by Chairman Professor Sol Resnick

Mr. Chairman and members of the Committee. CWIC is the

Consortium of Colorado River and Great Basin Water Institutes and

Centers. These are the seven State Water Research Institutes pro-

vided under the Water Resources Research Act of 1964 and continuing

under the Water Research and Development Act of 1978. We have

the pleasure of having Frank Coley from the U.S. Office of Water

Research and Technology with us at the meeting here.

Discussed with the Executive Subcommittee were status reports

on four regional projects. A Completion Report is now available

on request for the Second Phase, Water Resources Research in the

Lower Colorado River Basin. This report includes 135 projects

reported up to April, 1978; copies of the First Phase, which

includes 283 projects, 1972-76, are still available. The final

report is nearing completion for the regional project, Evaluation

of Antitranspirants; investigators from California, Arizona, Colorado,

and Idaho are participating in this study. Director Herbert Snyder

of California reporting on this project said there was good and bad

news. The good news was that the study was thorough and excellent

and will probably be a base-line study for future efforts along

these lines; while the bad news was that the costs were too high

using present chemicals.

A third project also very near to completion is, The Four

Corners Study of Public and Legislative Opinion on Water and other

Natural Resources; the book based on the results of the study is

C-13

~
