-.

Item 10 - (The following items were not on the original agenda.) This
is a series of itelllS suggested for discussion by Bernie Smith of the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission. They were:

a. Review and identification of remaining hydropower potential
in relation to regional energy needs. Studies currently
underway by the Bureau of Reclamation and Corps of Engineers
cover this subject. We need to assure that the information
is available to members.

b. Adequacy of reservoir storage to meet needs. Also under
study .

c. Review of p~ped storage integration into water resource
plans. This was suggested as another topic that might be
the subject of a future meeting, maybe with a field trip if
the right location could be found.

d. Project operation relationships and impacts upon anadromous
fish passage at dams. Not a problem in the Colorado River
Basin.

e. Water temperature regime and relationship to river uses.
This matter is receiving a great deal of attention and is
a topic of some controversy. Release temperatures of water
at many reservoirs can be adjusted by multiple level
releases if the optimum temperature can be determined, i.e.,
what type of fish should be favored? It was suggested that
this topic is more appropriate to the Environment and Recrea-
tion Subcommittee. '

f. Review of the adequacy of levees and of r~servoir storage
for flood control. Such a study is being made.

g. The relationship of future irrigation withdrawals as they
affect alternative instream flow levels. As mentioned before,
this topic should be investigated in conjunction with the
Environmental and Recreation Subcommittee.

Item 11 - Dave Sveum presented copies of the "Report on Application
of Remote Sensing in Water Management in the Pacific Southwest, November,
1978" and asked for guidance about distribution. It was decided that copies
should be distributed to the parent committee, the Executive Subcommittee
and the techni ca1 subcommi ttees. It was further suggested that a few extras
be printed for distribution to others upon request.

i
. ;
I
I
I
i
.
