1-2

More stringent State standards are proposed for waste water

treatment plants. A particular effort has been made to accurately

present conditions which exist pertaining to the degree of treat-

ment, character and quality of effluent, and specific problems of
each such plant.

Industrial wastes have been investigated. In general the

problems related to industry are related to mining and milling op-

erations, specifically to mine drainage and tailings ponds, which
"-
are covered in the proper section of the fOllowing report. The

treatment facilities of the two starch plants are nondischarging;

feedlots have been inactive, or are operating on a greatly reduced

scale during the study year; and meat processing plants have non-

discharging treatment facilities.

Some of the information presented in this report has been ob-

tained from past investigations and studies. The bulk of the in-

formation has been obtained by field investigation, studies and

sampling conducted by, or under the supervision of the writers.

The bibliography at the conclusion of this report lists all ref-

erences and sources of information used in its preparation.

It is the understanding of the writers that the Environmental
Protection Agency will use the information presented in this report

:~.

r.
