- ::'~'~j,

"':"-,
}

Primary storage for all project purposes would be provided on the

Dolores River by McPhee Reservoir, which would have total capacity of

381,100 acre-feet and a maximum water surface of 4,470 acres. Secondary

storage for municipal and industrial water would be provided at Monument

Creek Reservoir, which would have a capacity" of 690 acre-feet and a

water surface of 84 acres and .which IV0uld receive water diverted from

McPhee Reservoir. Dawson Draw Reservoir, with a capacity of 3,310 acre-

feet and a water surface of 294 acres, would be constructed specifically

for fish and wildlife enhancement and would be supplied primarily from
,

irrigation return flows.

Irrigation water would be provided for full service land in the

Dove Creek and Towaoc areas and for supplemental ser.vice land in the

Montezuma Valley area. Water for the Dove Creek land, which consists of

27,860 acres that are now dry-farmed, would be pumped from }!cPhee

Reservoir and conveyed through the 39.S-mile Dove Creek Canal and its

main branch, the 7.6-mile South Canal. l,ater for the Towaoc area would

be diverted from the reservoir through the 1.3-mile Dolores Tunnel and

conveyed 46.7 miles in the Dolores and Towaoc Canals, irrigating 7,500

acres of land that is now semi-desert grassland. Buried pipe laterals

would be installed in both areas for sprinkler irrigation, and six

pumping plants would be constructed in the Dove Creek area to provide

sprinkler pressure. In the Towaoc area, the ground slope would create

sufficient pressure in the pipes. Supplemental service water would be

provided to 26,300 acres of presently irrigated land in the Montezuma

Valley.area. The water would be diverted through the Dolores Tunnel and

Canal and an existing gravity distribution system.
