They are presently planning and building recreation <br />facilities at Turquoise Lake. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The pollution problem for the community of Twin Lakes is a serious <br />one. Presently a comprehensive atudy of this condition and of the <br />one generated by persons using the lakes for recreation is being made <br />by the Forest Service under an agreement with the Bureau, the Board <br />of Lake County Commissioners, and the Forest Service. Each agency <br />is contributing an equal share of the cost for the study. Meanwhile, <br />private landowners in the Twin Lakes vicinity have been advised to go <br />ahead with the sanitation improvements, for they will be compensated <br />if the Government acquires the property for Project or recreation <br />purposes. <br /> <br />4. To date the Bureau has acquired only those lands <br />required to accommodate construction of Project facilities. As <br />future contracts are awarded for remaining features in the Twin Lakes <br />area, ,such aa the dam, highway relocation, and recreation facilitiea, <br />lands will be acquired to meet the needs of both construction and <br />recreation. <br /> <br />Private landowners in the vicinity of Twin Lakes who are now concerned <br />about pollution problems being generated on their lands have been <br />advised that they can upgrade, replace, or construct additional sewage <br />disposal facilities which they will later be compensated for if the <br />Government acquires the property for Project or recreation purposes. <br /> <br />Under agreement with the Forest Service, lands withdrawn in the Twin <br />Lakes area, except those needed for Project operation, will be turned <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />XI-485 <br />
