The Sacramento Valley is as sured of a
good water supply this year with Shasta Dam full at this time.

Two new wells recently drilled at Kern-Pixley refuges and now equipped
with pumps are producing approximately 2,000 to 2,200 gallons per min-
ute or nearly double the supply of the older wells. This is due to some-
what deeper drilling together with a greater length .of pipe perforations ,.
as suggested by local drillers. Water was expected this spring from
PosoCreek, but the flow stopped about two miles short of the refuge.
Several hundred acre -feet of water have been delivered to Pixley through
the Deer Creek Channel. This is Clas s 2 water .purchased from the
Irrigation District at a cost of $3.50 an acre-foot.

We have been faced with critically high water levels all spring.at both
Tule Lake a.nd Lower Klamath. The Williamson River, which feeds
Klamath Lake and the Upper Klamath Refuge, has exceeded all previous
records for daily dis charges of water into the lake. At the present time
everything' seems to be under control, and Lower Klamath units are
being dewateredas rapidly as possible. We will not, however, be able
to farm Unit 12 this year. Damage from high water has been estimated
at $266,000.

12

.;,",' ',>

;....'.,.,

<,'I,

~
i~~i;{~

~,' "-,:-,

".;.;:./f.'

;>,'.;-, ;.;:

';;~;f:~

:2F>~.':

.:.,.-". .:~

[~~~

,~.;,,!.~

.~~' ,/-

.,.-....'...

".'
