Maintenance of tHO gaging stations is the <br /> <br />only expense which is directly attributable to the Compact, <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum: The Colorado River <br /> <br />Basin Salinity Control Forum was formed in November 1973, Representatives <br /> <br />of the Colorado River Basin states met and established the Forum to serve <br /> <br />as a mechanism of interstate coopera.tion, in order to develop uniform <br /> <br />state salinity standards and means of salinity control for the Colorado <br /> <br />River pursuant to Public Law 92-500 and to consider related salinity problems <br /> <br />of interstate significance. <br /> <br />The governor of each of the Basin states; Arizona, California, <br /> <br />Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico,Utah, and Wyoming, may appoint up to three <br /> <br />representatives to serve as members of the Forum from that state, The <br /> <br />representatives are chiefly state officials in the water resources and water <br /> <br />quality areas, Until November 1980, the work of the Forum was accomplished <br /> <br />by the voluntary efforts of the state representatives,* <br /> <br />The most signficant achievement of the Forum to date has been <br /> <br />the developnent of salinity standards including numeric criteria and a <br /> <br />plan of implementation for salinity control for the Colorado River Basin, <br /> <br />which has been separately adopted by each of the Basin states and approved <br /> <br />by the Environmental Protection Agency, <br /> <br />The Forum, through a permanent Work Group** is continually reviewing <br /> <br />* In November 1980, an Executive Director will be hired, with funds provided <br />by EPA, The Director will coordinate various activities, and ,,,ill be <br />responsible to the Forum, <br /> <br />H, In addition to state members, EPA, '-'l'R-S, BLH, USDA, and USF&HS are <br />represented on the Work Group, <br /> <br />C-ll <br /> <br />,lb. <br />
