<br />I ..-I failure of the dam, use the fOllowing checklist as a guide during an <br />CC <br />C'.: earthquake event: <br />C.] <br /> <br />IF ALL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE DAM ARE LOST and there is potential for <br /> <br />:....,... <br />(,) <br /> <br />a. Ouickly inspect the dam and evaluate potential danger of <br /> <br />failure. <br /> <br />b. Check for sloughs, slides, slumps, and other signs of <br /> <br />distress near dam abutments. <br /> <br />c. If failure is imminent, all measures which can be used to <br /> <br />reduce storage in reservoir should be used. Warning of downstream resi- <br /> <br />dents is essential; if possible, enlist aid of Civil Defense or <br /> <br />Sheriff's office personnel. Personally warning downstream residents is <br /> <br />up to the Dam Tender's judgment. <br /> <br />d. Caution should be used in increasing discharge through outlet <br /> <br />of the dam. It may be necessary to cut off the flow in outlet works (if <br /> <br />works as the conduit may be sheared and increased flow may cause piping <br /> <br />possible) to avoid piping. <br /> <br />e. Continue trying to contact or send word to any Water and <br /> <br />Power office. <br /> <br />A-12 <br />
