.

001075

.

.

WHAT WATERS WOULD BE STORED IN TWO FORKS RESERVOIR?
TWO FORKS Dam would intercept all flows of the South Platte River at
that point. The flows intercepted would include unregulated natural
runoff (including violent flood flows), regulated releases from upstream
reservoirs, and imported water -. particularly that from the Roberts
Tunnel. Releases of water would be made at TWO FORKS to meet existing
water rights and fol' futul'e downstream diversions, which would provide
more complete use of flood flows and imports. The storage capacity
provided in TWO FORKS Reservoir would I'esult in a significant net gain
in usable storage for municipal and industrial uses for the exploding
population of the metropolitan area. Also, storage capacity would be
reserved. as unfilled space to receive the viOlent, cloudburst floods
that would originate in the 2,580 square miles of South Platte drainage
above the dam.

HOW WOULD TWO FORKS IMPROVE SUPPLIES OF WATER FOR MUNICIPAL AND

INDUSTRIAL USES?

In two ways. Over the years, the large TWO fORKS Raservoir would

yield increased quantities of water which has heretofore flowed down

the South Platte completely uncontrolled. And second, TWO FORKS and

srr~ller afterbay pools at higher elevations than now available, would

serve as gravity pipelines or other conveyance works and could reach the

extensive high areas which flank Denver proper and which will be subject

to urban development as the Denver metropolitan area continues to

expand in area and population.

.3
