.. .OI}107~

.

.

TWO FORKS Dam will be a truly multiple-purpose facility. It will
store water for municipal and industrial use in the Denver metropolitan
area. Of particular importance, in view of the June 1965 flood on the
South Platte through the Denver area. TWO FORl<S Dam would provide
control of floods originating over most of the South Platte drainage
upstream from Denver. as an essential team-mate of Chatfield Reservoir.

WHERE WOULD TWO FORl<S DAM BE LOCATED?
The location of TWO FORKS 0aIII is tied down. It would be built on
the South Platte River one mile below the junction of the North Fork
with the South Platte River. It is about five miles upstream from the
Denver Water Intake Works above Waterton.

IS THE SITE FOR TWO FORl<S DAM A GOOD SITE?

The site for TWO FORl<S Dam is excellent. The river flows in a

deep. V-shaped canyon at the site selected. Core drilling of the

foundation rock has been completed. Two exploratory tunnels are now

being excavated into the abutments at the damsite to obtain further

data on bedrock conditions.

WHAT TYPE OF DAM WOULD BE BUILT?
TWO FORKS Dam would be a thin-arch. concrete -dam. Altllough the
height required for the proposed TWO FORKS Dam is yet to be determined.
a dam in excess of 500 feet high could be built at the selected site.

WOULD A POWERPLANT BE BUILT AT TWO FORKS DAM?
possibly. or provisions made for installation of one at a later date.

2
