REPORT ON OPERATIONS OURING WATER YEAR 1983

A. Ruedi Reservoir

.

The 1982 water year ended on September 30, 1982, with Ruedi
Reservoi r contai n i ng 100,480 acre-feet of :water. Releases were bei ng made
at a rate of 160 ft3/s at this time. This release rate was decreased in
early March to about 100 ft3/s and contin~ed unti 1 the first of April when
the release was increased to slow the rate :of storage.

Beginning the middle of May when the heavy snows came, the release was
increased to 250 ft3/s to allow the passage of the additional runoff. By
the second week of June, the unexpected high inflow caused releases to be
increased. By June 29, the release was p.p to 1,270 ft3/s (see exhibit 1
for the accumulated precipitation at Mered~th). The maximum reservoir con-
tent was 101,610 acre-feet on June 27. ~he 1,270 ft3/s release rate was
reduced on June 30 to 1,080 ft3/s. The rate continued to be reduced almost
daily until July 15 when inflow-outflow were,basically matched at 300 ft3/s.

The reservoir maintained a relatively constant elevation throughout the
remainder of the water year. The inflow steadily declined to approximately
70 ft3/s on September 30, 1983.

During water year 1983, one contract for ~uedi water was initiated with the
City of Rifle. However, no water was called for under this contract and no
,
requests were made for releases of stored water by the four long-term
storage contract entities. The content on September 30, 1983, was 98,580 .
acre-feet.

2
