DC-6945 <br />(SUPPLEMENTAL NOTICE NO. 31 <br /> <br />Par. 179 <br /> <br />structures, pull box covers, and exposed metal <br />surfaces shall be connect.eU to the grounding <br />system with the proper size copper conductor as <br />shown on the drawings or as directed. <br />Connections underground or embedded in <br />concrete shall be made with Cadweld, <br />Thermoweld, or equivalent process. All patnt, <br />scale, and enamel shaH be removed from the <br />points of contact on metal surfaces before the <br />ground connections are made. If Thermoweld, <br />Cadweld, or equivalent process is used, the <br />contractor shall paint the surfaces with zinc <br />dust-zinc oxide paint in accordance with <br />Paragraph 242 after the connection is made. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(41 Equipment groLinding.- The contractor shall <br />make all ground connections between all <br />grounding pads and the grounding system <br />whether or not such grounding connections are <br />shown on the grounding drawings. The number <br />of grounding terminals for each piece of <br />equipment may be one, two, or more in some <br />cases. <br /> <br />t (5) Driven ground rad.-At the Southern <br />Colorado Power Company's terminal pole, a <br />ground rod shall be driven vertically the full <br />length of the rod until the top is at least 14 <br />inches below the established elevation of the <br />subgrade. When solid rock is encountered within <br />3 feet of the established elevation of the <br />subgrBde the ground rod shall be grouted into a <br />vertical hole of such depth that the top of the <br />rod will be 14 inches below the established <br />elevation of the subgrade. When solid rock ;s <br />encountered more than 3 feet below the <br />established elevation of the subgrade, drive rod <br />to refusal at approximately a 450 angle, then <br />bend top of rod to lie horizontal 14 iriches below <br />the subgrade elevation. t <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />d. Measurement and payment.-Weights for <br />payment for furnishing and installing the grounding <br />system will be determined from actual lengths df <br />bare stranded copper cable installed. Weights of <br />grounding accessories shall not be included for <br />determining payment. <br /> <br />Payment for the grounding system will be made at <br />the unit price per pound bid therefor in the <br />schedule for furnishing and installing grounding <br />system, which unit price shall include the cost of <br />furnishing and installing all grounding accessories, <br />testing, and making ground connections to <br />machinery, equipment, and other metalwork <br />installed under these specifications. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1430 <br />
