Cv.na1 was
reduoed to 175 s.f. at 1130PM 8/3 (a reduotion of 100 s.f.)
This left 0. head of 250 s.f. in the Colo. Canal (175 s.f. ex-
change" 75 s.f. Twin lDkes). This head of 250 s.f. was oon-
tinued until 8.2ON1 8/4, at which time an additional 100 s.f.
of Neredi th water was cut out - leaving a head of 150 s. f.
(75 s. f. exohange .. 75 s.f. of Twin Lakes).

At 8120AlI 8/4 all of the Merodi th water was cut out of the Colo.
Canal leaving only 75 s.f. of Twin Le.l:es watsr in the oanal.

The above mentioned outs in the l1eredi th exohange were Ill!\de in
an attempt to keep up with the rapid fall in the river. It
seems, however, that these outs were not made soon snough and
the Catlin and Rocky Ford Canals, which are located on that seo-
tion of river between the intake of the Colo. Canal and too point
where the Heredi th water is returned to the ri ver ~ were shorted
as a result of this exohange.

The reoords indicate that if the first out in the amount of the
I-leredith exchange (100 s.f.), whioh oame at 1211 8/3, had been
made at 9PH 8/2, and the subsequent cuts made at the Slllll6 relative
intervals. the shortage referred to would have been avoided.

To "U knowledge I'Ir. Beaoh received no informo.ti on concerning the
stage of the river at Nepesta on 8/2; after the 6AM report.

There was a sizeable decrease in discharge at the Nepesta station
during the day - 8/2. The stream flow fell off about 200 s.f.
between 4MI 8/2 and 12N 8/2, and had fallen an additional 40 s.f.
by 6AM 813.

If Hr. Beach had information concerning the disoharge at Nepesta
at 6pl1 8/3 it may have been misleading. After the severe drop of
200 s.f. between 4;u1 8/2 - 1211 8/2, a small flush passed the
Nepesta station between l2N 8/2 - 8Pl1S/2. The discharge as
indicated by the chart reoord for 6~1 8/2 was some 80 s.f. higher
than IlPN 8/2 and 40 s. f. higher than llAl'! 8/2.

Another reason why I think rh.. Beach might hove hasi toted to
reduce the amount of the exchange on the Pl1 0_' 8/2. was the ex.
pressed intention of the Rooky Ford and Catlin Cerals to sluice
during the PtI of 8/2 and the AI1 of 8/3.

The A. V.D.A. report for 8/2 oarries the following notation -
"Arkansas River at Nepesta - 6Al'I No Report." The river had
