~l!
,t{}

tJi'i,
\\'$

ticn of plots of land at various loc~tions on the' reservation
that potentially could be devoted to growing various crops.

Subtask lC

The third step in this task will be to estimate the poten-
tial.yields that could be obtained from various crops on various
~and parcels. Again, this effort will be closely coordinated
with the state's agronomist, and reviewed in light of experImen-
tal data available for the region. Although these sources will
provide much useful information, a representative sample of cur-
rent operators on and adjacent to the reservation will be'
interviewed to substantiate current yields and ascertain what
difficulties -can be a,nticipated in increasing' those yields. One
of the objectives of these interviews will be to determine wheth-
er yields are currently limited by historical practices, lack of
finances, or water (factors which could presumably be corrected);
or whether they are limited by altitude, soils or climatological
factors which cannot be controlled.

Subtask 10

Contractor will project future markets and prices for each
crop. The first step will be to discern whether the potential
market for each crop should be considered "national" or "region-
al" in scope.

For products with a regional market only, projections will
be made of the size of that market and the price elasticity of
the product. An estimate will then be made of the price changes
that would result from the estimated increases iri total produc-
tion on reservation lands. Those products that have a national
market will be assumed to be sold at the national market price,
minus 'transportation and handling costs.

Products: Tabulation of potential crops, croplands, and yields
by cropandcrop16nd.
