Accordingly, WRC shall undertake economic analyses and
provide data as requested by Boyle Engineering Corporation, the
agricultural engineering consultants, as long as these requests
fall within this present scope of work. Any requests outside the
scope .of work shall be referred to the pepartment of Law. To
help the Pepartment of Law in coordination of these studies, WRC
shall submit a biweekly memorandum describing the work accom-
plished during that period. Documentation of sources and .
methodologies used will be provided, either within these biweekly
progress reports or else in a work memorandum ,upon completion of
each task.

Task 1 - proiection of Crops, Yields. and Potential. Markets

This task involves th~ projection of the crops, yields, and
potential markets for crops that could be grown on the Southern
Ute and Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservations.

Subtask lA

A list of potential crops that could be grown given the
region's soils and climatological conditions shall be compiled as
follows. The $tate's agronomist is primarily responsible for de-
termining the range of crops that potentially could be grown on
the reservations. WRC shall review the results of the
8gronomist t s work ond jointly arrive at a list of c,rops to be
considered in the economic analysis. AS a part of this review,
WRC shall consider data developed by the CSU Agricultural Experi-
mental Station located northwest of Cortez.

At the present time, crops grown on the reservations are
limited primarily to alfalfa and native hay. The surrounding re-
gion is, however, a large producer of dry beans and winter wheat,
as well as lesser amounts 'of corn, corn silage, barley and pota-
toes. Sugar beets and sorghum will also be considered.

Subtask lB

Once a list of potential crops has been decided upon, a de-
termination as to the amount of land..that .could potentially be
brought into production on both the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern
Ute Reservations will be made. This determination will follow
close consultation with and will largely build on work of other
experts working for the state in the areas of soils science.
agronomy, hydrology, and agricultural engineering.
