Purpose: This project would develop water for <br />industrial and municipal use. The dam would be <br />located about 3 miles above DeBeque on the Colorado <br />River. <br /> <br />b. Status - The CWCB will complete a feasibility study <br />on this project by January 1, 1983. <br /> <br />c. Issues - The primary problem with this project will <br />be the uncertainties of 'demand for industrial water. <br />Impacts on endangered fish species will be a major <br />issue. <br /> <br />4. Homestake Phase II (Colorado Springs and Aurora) <br /> <br />a. Purpose - This project would divert about 21,000 <br />acre-feet annually from tributaries of the Eagle <br />River near Redcliff through the existing <br />transmountain diversion facilities of Colorado <br />Springs and Aurora. <br /> <br />b. Status - The project is currently going through the <br />Environmental Impact Statement process. <br /> <br />c. Issues - The project is located in a wilderness area <br />and opposition to low streamflows in this area is <br />substantial. The draft EIS is inadequate. <br /> <br />5. Juniper-Cross Mountain (Colorado River WCD) <br /> <br />a. Purpose - The primary purpose of this project would <br />be the generation of hydroelectric power. This <br />project would be located on the Yampa River west of <br />Craig. <br /> <br />b. Status - Feasibility studies are complete. FERC has <br />an EIS under preparation as part of the licensing <br />process. <br /> <br />c. Issues - Colorado-Ute, the anticipated purchaser of <br />the project's power, has at least temporarily, <br />declined to proceed with the project due to costs. <br />This project is also in a wilderness designation <br />study area and would have significant impacts on <br />endangered fish species and whitewater recreation on <br />the lower Yampa River. <br /> <br />-6- <br />
