002838

,

.

.

6. Ta lor Draw Reservoir, Rangel Project
Colorado River WCD

a. Purpose - The project will provide a municipal supply
for the Town of Rangely. The reservoir, which is
located about five miles east of Rangely, will also
be used for flood control.

b. Status - A construction contract has been recently
awarded, with construction to begin shortly.
Construction is expected to take two years.

c. Issues - Previously resolved.

7. Bear Reservoir (Upper Yampa WCD)

a. Purpose - The reservoir would be located on the Yampa
River about 18 miles south of Steamboat Springs. It
would develop water for industrial, municipal and
agricultural use.

b. Status - A feasibility study is currently in progress
and financing sources are being investigated.

c. Issues - Currently, only one half of the water which
the project would develop is committed. More demand
is needed to make the project financially feasible,
or subsidized financing will be needed.

8. Smith Fork (City of Delta)

a. Purpose - The primary purpose of this project is for
the generation of hydroelectric power for the city of
Delta.

b. Status - In August, 1977, the City was issued a
preliminary permit by FERC. However, due to actions
taken by the Department of the Interior under their
interpretation of the regulations set forth under the
Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the City has not been
permitted to pursue the activities outlined in the
preliminary permit.

c. Issues - The project would inundate a portion of the
Gunnison River (lower Black Canyon) which has been
proposed for inclusion in the national wild and
scenic rivers systems (see memo on the Gunnison
River).

-7-
