L~gislation for a State Rivers Protection Act originally
was scheduled to be'introduced in the 1981 legislative session, but now will be
delayed until 1983.

However, an act in 1975 gave the Little Missouri River status as a state
. scenic river, to n.. .preserve the.. . River as nearly as possible in its present
state,.. .the river will be maintained in a free-flowing natural condition,.. n
(House Bill No, 1172).

.

Administration of the river is by a commission comprised of representatives
of various state agencies and landowners in the affected counties, The
commission advises local governments on protection of the river and promulgates
management policies regulating recreational use.

CONTACT: Hr.
